I'm a 50-something writer and communications professional in Washington, DC. Since 2010, I've also blogged about personal finance under pseudonyms, just to keep my professional life a little separate from the brash, gutsy, and utterly honest human who is my alter ego in all things financial.
I launched The Traumatized Budget on Medium in late 2018 to write for the people who really effing need that morning latte, but also need to get the hell out of crushing debt. I pass on what I have learned over 20 years of managing, living with, and reducing what I call "mega-debt"--debt that will take ten or more years to clear. I speak for the people who won't be able to FI, much less FIRE, but who want to live their lives with dignity, reasonable comfort, and a sense that they still have choices and enough control of their money to fulfill their purpose on earth. I also like to make people laugh, and think.
I believe in the power of personal choice, even against the odds, and the power of thinking about your money as one tool among many for a great life. I sometimes break out into bursts of compassion and badly recited poetry for no reason.
I may actually already love you.
