Hi, I'm Todd Porterfield, CFP®, RICP®. I grew up on a ranch in the shadow of Mt. Shasta in northern California. Each year, as a part of the 4-H program I raised a steer and brought it to the county fair for auction and the money from the sale helped pay for college—and a new saddle.
Key Moments: Leaving the Big Money wealth management firms behind. The Big Money firm was not about planning or helping people it was about generating revenue for the firm. There was a better way.
Becoming A Financial Planner: A self-proclaimed financial “nerd”, the planning procession satisfies my analytical mindset, and it is thoroughly rewarding to work directly with families to help them reach financial independence. My cousin, Jill Porterfield CPA, has joined me at Fairchild Capital and we soon realized we could do even more for our clients by combining our unique perspectives and complementary skill sets.
My “Why”: Everyone has a different path with their lives and money. Some are so passionate about their profession they may slow down but never stop. Others are ready to transition as soon as possible. I am energized by these stories and helping families make the best financial decisions.
⭐ Best Retreat: Porterfield Ranch, Dorris, CA Always good to visit your roots.
⭐ Greatest Adventure: Scuba Diving with lemon sharks in Bora Bora.
⭐ Favorite Book: Catch 22 by Joseph Heller
⭐ Can’t be interrupted when: The Beavs are playing
⭐ Favorite lunch: 808 Grinds Food Cart, kalua pig is darn good

The “Old-Fashioned” Reason Todd Porterfield Started Fairchild Capital: Our founder & CEO, Todd Porterfield, used to work at a big financial firm. His favorite part of the job was working 1-on-1 with his clients. After some corporate policy changes, Todd wasn’t able to help clients with their retirement planning like he wanted to. So he left the corporate world and started his own retirement planning firm.
Todd founded Fairchild Capital in 2014 and hasn’t looked back. It might sound old-fashioned, but Fairchild Capital was founded on the belief that, in business:
Relationships Are The Most Important Thing You Can Have.
We work with a small number of clients, so we can develop meaningful relationships with all of them and provide the highest service possible. So if you’re ready for a financial planner who puts YOUR interests first… You’re in the right place.
How We Help You Navigate Your Retirement Journey:
✅ Steady Retirement Income: The scariest part of retirement is wondering whether you’ll actually be able to “recreate the paycheck.” We’ll show you how to do it.
✅ Comprehensive Retirement Planning: A customized, realistic plan is the foundation of a stress-free retirement. We’ll work with you to develop your unique plan and put it into action.
✅ Stress-Free Investment Management: We work with every client to develop a portfolio that makes sense for their goals. (And we handle it all, so you don’t have to worry.)
✅ Smart(Er) Tax Planning: Everyone has to pay taxes, but you shouldn’t have to pay more than you owe. We’ll help you keep your taxes as small as (legally) possible.
✅ Reduce The Risk Of Running Out Of Money: Let us coordinate different sources of income to save on taxes and reduce the risk of running out of money during retirement.

To make Wealthtender free for readers, we earn a nominal monthly fee from financial advisors and firms in exchange for marketing services (including being featured on this profile page), subject to terms of use. This compensation creates a natural conflict of interest when we favor their promotion over others. Wealthtender is not a client of these advisors or firms. Testimonials may not be representative of other clients’ experiences and do not guarantee future performance or success.
Wealthtender exists to help people discover the most trusted and authentic financial advisors and educators in the finance community.
Your honest reviews help people decide which financial professionals and educators may be best suited to their individual needs.
The majority of people trust reviews as much as personal recommendations, so what you write in your review should reflect your own opinion and experience.
Tips for Writing a Helpful Review
Be descriptive. Instead of just saying what you like or dislike, share why. What have you enjoyed most or least about your experience with the provider? Have they helped you overcome a difficult financial challenge or strengthened your knowledge about particular money matters? The more details, the better!
Be honest. Your rating and review should reflect your actual experience.
Stay relevant. Ensure your review is helpful to others by avoiding off-topic discussions or personal opinions not relevant to your direct experience.
Make your review easy to read. Reviews should be readable to others. Use proper grammar, avoid excessive capitalization or punctuation, and be sure to check your spelling.
Be yourself. Don’t post as, or pretend to be, someone else, and do not say you’re associated with a person or organization with which you are not.
Be nice. Don’t write abusive, hateful, threatening, or harassing content. Avoid personal threats, hate speech, obscenities, or inflammatory language.
Respect the privacy of others. Don’t post information that can be used to identify another individual or compromise their privacy.
Report abuse. Thank you for helping us ensure reviews on Wealthtender are helpful to everyone.
