About Benjamin Yeung, CFP®
I joined Seaborn in 2024 as a financial planner based in the Washington, DC area. My professional career has included significant time in software engineering as well as financial planning. I often stepped into roles where I had to work with both the technical and business sides of the organization. My comfort translating between worlds found a perfect home at Seaborn.
Like Seaborn's founder, Britton Gregory, I have an analytical approach to finance but appreciate that very human factors drive it all. We're all different, and the financial planning relationship is ultimately about finding the most effective path to your best life--whatever that means to you--and adapting as you and your circumstances change.
When not working, I have a wide range of hobbies, including strategy games, puzzles, and programming. My media tastes are eclectic, but generally lean toward nonfiction and science fiction that makes you think. Some people find it interesting that in addition to living with cats, I have a pet snake. It's a 30-minute "you ask me questions, I ask you questions" meeting to figure out whether and how it might make sense for us to work together. No need to bring any concrete details -- just a general sense of your financial situation is fine! About Seaborn Financial, LLC
Driven by data? So are we.
Seaborn Financial, LLC is a fee-only, comprehensive financial planning firm that focuses on tech professionals.
What does that mean?
It means that we don't accept commissions from anyone, ever.
It means have a fiduciary obligation to you -- we're legally obligated to always work in your best interest, rather than a salesperson, who is obligated to work in the best interest of the company they represent.
It means we fully optimize your finances, including investments, retirement planning, savings, debt, employee benefits, cash flow management, insurance, and more.
And it means that we're especially well-equipped to deal with issues specific to tech professionals, like how best to handle their ESPP, 401(k), and stock options.
We're located in Austin, TX, though we serve clients anywhere in the US.
WHAT WE'RE BUILT ON
We're out to change what "financial advisor" means. This is what it looks like at Seaborn:
▪️ Analysis
We're systematic, methodical, data-driven. We don't speculate or go with our guts. We use technology to its utmost to streamline and add power to our services. If you like placing large bets on speculation or if you're not comfortable with technology, we might not be for you.
▪️ Transparency
As a fee-only Registered Investment Advisor, we accept no commissions from anyone, ever, and we have a fiduciary duty to our clients that we take very seriously. The goal is that you should always be clear on what we're doing, and why, and the tradeoffs involved.
▪️ Perspective
We're passionate about what we do. We give to local charities. We volunteer our time to help the community. We have a sense of humor about our work. We know that people sometimes mistake emotion and a sense of humor for lack of professionalism. We're okay with that -- we let our data do the talking. Education
