Hi, I'm Bob Porter, President and CEO of Porter Investments. For more than 25 years, I’ve been focused on strategic investment management, helping people age 50 and over find more growth and less frustration with their money. My work focuses on investment management and guiding investors through the ups and downs of markets.
My Path to Porter Investments
Growing up in Texas, I never imagined I’d end up in this line of work. As a kid, I wanted to be a professional football player. I played nose guard in high school, although my build back then made me look more like a football turned sideways. In college, I majored in electrical engineering but spent more energy on the social side of campus than on Thermodynamics or Differential Equations. Luckily, I had enough math and science credits to graduate with a degree in Computer Science—a foundation that became surprisingly valuable later.
After college, I started out in software development, building cost analysis and accounting systems. I found myself increasingly drawn to investing and investment strategies. I also wanted to better understand how people make decisions with their money—and why those decisions so often go off track.
From Fidelity Investments to Today
My first chance to work directly with individual investors came at Fidelity Investments. There, I was assigned to work with seasoned, high net worth ($1M and over) investors on portfolio risk management and retirement income planning (lifetime paycheck replacement). I also conducted seminars on asset allocation strategies. What I discovered was eye-opening. Many DIY investors actually choose strategies that fit them well but end up abandoning those strategies at the worst possible times. It was clear that emotions often do more damage to our investments than markets.
Quantitative Investing and a Rules-Based Approach
That experience shaped how I manage money today. Over time, I saw that emotions and biases are unavoidable—we’re all human. But we don’t have to let them drive our decisions. That’s why I rely on Quantitative Investing and a Rules-Based Portfolio Management style. By using quantitative models and a rules-based approach, we create discipline, minimize knee-jerk reactions, and keep portfolios on track through both good markets and tough ones.
I seek not just the highest returns for you, but the highest reliable returns.
Outside of the Office
My wife and I have three daughters, all married now and officially off the “payroll.” Thankfully, all three of my sons-in-law play golf, so we never have trouble putting together a foursome.
Outside of work, we love snow skiing and hiking in Colorado, traveling, spending time with our growing family, and hanging out with our two Labrador Retrievers. We’re also active in our church, where I’ve served as an usher for many years, and we take part in activities that provide support to families in need throughout the Houston area.

About Porter Investments
You may already work with a Financial Advisor, or you may be a Do-It-Yourself (DIY) investor, but chances are you’ve wondered:
• Why can’t my returns more closely resemble the broad indices, after fees?
• How much money can I reliably spend in retirement without running out?
• How can I enjoy strong returns but also be protected from bear markets?
We work with seasoned investors who had these same questions at first. Bringing clarity to these questions does not involve always accurate predictions, but always good planning. Planning based on actual data, using proven industry methods, done in a non-emotional way. We do our best work for individuals age 50 and beyond, who have accumulated total savings of $1M-$8M, and are concerned about the harmful impact a prolonged bear market could have on their investments and their ability to outlive their money.
As an investment focused fiduciary advisor, we seek to provide our clients with the proper Strategic Investment Management and Tactical Asset Allocation solutions to align their returns with their expectations.

FAQs
How will Porter Investments help me stay invested during market corrections when emotions are screaming to do the opposite?
That’s where having a process makes all the difference. Left on our own, emotions tend to push us into actions we later regret. We give you structure and perspective BEFORE those feelings hit hardest. The rules and simulations we use show the bigger picture—so you can see that short-term pain doesn’t erase long-term return opportunities. We seek to keep short-term pain just that - "short", allowing your portfolio to march to new highs quicker. And if emotions start yelling, we are here to help quiet the noise and keep you on track. You don't need the "you are not thinking long term" lecture. Humans and markets

Can Porter Investments help me with total retirement income planning and help turn my savings into a paycheck?
Everyone invests and saves with the goal of eventually reaching a point when, after many years of hard work, their retirement portfolio can provide the same income as their working paycheck. In addition to IRAs and Social Security, you may be other sources of retirement income. Porter Investments helps you maximize prudent, tax-efficient withdrawal strategies across all your resources, so you can generate the income you need to support your lifestyle. But more importantly, have that income for as long as you need it—reducing the risk of outliving it. How can I not outlive my money?
What can Bob Porter and Porter Investments do for me as a DIY investor that I cannot realistically do on my own?
A lot of smart people can handle the basics of investing on their own, and if you've had long term success in one area, you should continue investing that way. But what gets us in trouble is not what we know, it is what we don't know, but think we do. Where Porter Investments comes in is giving you structure and perspective that’s hard to create by yourself. Our PPRO investing process shows the trade-offs clearly—what risks you might be underestimating, and where blind spots can trip you up. When your DIY approach might need tweaking.
How could using Porter Investments with the other financial advisors I have now benefit me and provide greater perspective?
Most of our clients already had one or two financial advisors when they came to us. But it is not a question of competence, it a question of different perspectives. Porter Investments is a focused, specialized asset management firm. Over the last 15 years, many financial advisors have chosen to outsource their investment management responsibilities. We have found that some seasoned, engaged investors want a more direct relationship with the person "pulling the levers"--the one actually moving their investments and analyzing their retirement income strategies. The strength in diversity of thoughts
