James Regan always knew he wanted to help people. In college, when he realized that most people lacked real-world knowledge of the financial industry, he set out to change that. He began reading The Wall Street Journal, and for four years straight, he read the newspaper cover to cover, immersing himself in the markets and economy.
Before his career as a financial advisor, James proudly served his country in the Air National Guard and was deployed three times in support of Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. He was awarded the Air Force Achievement Medal and was named a “Hometown Hero” by the City of Springfield, Ill. for his service. He formerly served as Chairman of the Board for Military Assistance Mission, a nonprofit that serves active-duty military, veterans, and their families.
James began his financial career to help educate and empower his clients to take control of their financial future. As the founder and financial advisor, James’ goal with VALOR Legacy Wealth is to create an independent advisory firm where he would have the ability to truly serve in his clients’ best interests. As an advisor, he helps his clients to look at the big financial picture and plan for and coordinate all important areas of their financial life. James is most proud when he can help his clients create the roadmap to reach their financial dreams and goals.
James graduated from Illinois State University with a bachelor’s in marketing and minor in finance. He is an Accredited Investment Fiduciary (AIF®) and holds his FINRA Series 65 and life and health insurance licenses. He holds his Retirement Income Certified Professional® (RICP®) designation to better service his clients as they near or are in retirement. With an emphasis on income planning and reducing taxes, if possible, in the distribution phase of retirement.
James is also a member Ed Slott’s Elite IRA Advisor Group. This exclusive organization of financial advisors is dedicated to being leaders in the IRA industry. Ed Slott’s Elite IRA Advisors are equipped with up-to-date tools and resources to help their clients retire with more clarity and confidence. The unprecedented volume of legislative changes to retirement plans affect everyone and on-going education is crucial. James attends in person training twice a year to stay abreast of the ever changing landscape of taxes and legislative risk to retirement plans.
James and his wife, Merian, are proud parents of Eliana, Pierce, and their most recent addition, Colette. James loves being a husband and father and enjoys spending time together as a family.

Our Approach
Build your wealth. Protect your life’s work and savings. Plan your life’s goals, dreams and retirement.
Working with VALOR we achieve putting your plan in place, one that you will be confident with, by sharing with you the options available to you and your needs and wants. VALOR works with you on stealth-building strategies that focus on what’s important to you, your needs and your plans for your family, minimizing the tax burden not only for those inheriting your wealth, but for your retirement distribution plan.
Accomplishing your goals is easier with a map—one to guide you through the milestones that matter to you. Whether you’re looking to build your wealth, enjoy your future retirement or create a lasting legacy, we’ll develop a customized plan to help you reach your destination. VALOR is committed to providing dedicated, customized and ongoing trust through our administration that upholds your wishes for the future.
4 Steps:
1st Step: Listen and Learn. First meeting, introduction.
2nd Step: Discussion of Proposed Plan. We will discuss and analyze your present situation in real time. Whether you have a plan in place or are here to start your future financial plan, James will discuss your situation with you, then he will get to work on presenting you with solutions which will fit your wants and needs, based on your present situation.
3rd Step: Execution of Your Plan. Discussion of Proposed Plan. At this 2nd meeting James will be able to provide you with the options that are best for you. He will be able to show you where the plan will lead and exactly what is needed to execute your future plan. If you are interested in moving forward, he then begins the process of putting your plan into action. Once he has gathered the plan for your approval, we will then have our 3rd meeting. We will then go over everything and answer any question you may have and there are never too many questions you can ask. If you are comfortable and ready to move forward James will proceed, putting your plan into action.
4th and Final Step: Evaluate, Manage and adjust if needed.

To make Wealthtender free for readers, we earn a nominal monthly fee from financial advisors and firms in exchange for marketing services (including being featured on this profile page), subject to terms of use. This compensation creates a natural conflict of interest when we favor their promotion over others. Wealthtender is not a client of these advisors or firms. Wealthtender exists to help people discover the most trusted and authentic financial advisors and educators in the finance community.
Your honest reviews help people decide which financial professionals and educators may be best suited to their individual needs.
The majority of people trust reviews as much as personal recommendations, so what you write in your review should reflect your own opinion and experience.
Tips for Writing a Helpful Review
Be descriptive. Instead of just saying what you like or dislike, share why. What have you enjoyed most or least about your experience with the provider? Have they helped you overcome a difficult financial challenge or strengthened your knowledge about particular money matters? The more details, the better!
Be honest. Your rating and review should reflect your actual experience.
Stay relevant. Ensure your review is helpful to others by avoiding off-topic discussions or personal opinions not relevant to your direct experience.
Make your review easy to read. Reviews should be readable to others. Use proper grammar, avoid excessive capitalization or punctuation, and be sure to check your spelling.
Be yourself. Don’t post as, or pretend to be, someone else, and do not say you’re associated with a person or organization with which you are not.
Be nice. Don’t write abusive, hateful, threatening, or harassing content. Avoid personal threats, hate speech, obscenities, or inflammatory language.
Respect the privacy of others. Don’t post information that can be used to identify another individual or compromise their privacy.
