About Matthew Gorrell, AFC®, EA, ChFC®, MQFP®, WMCP®
Hi, I'm Matthew Gorrell, Founder of HonorPoint Financial.I started HonorPoint Financial because I’ve lived the financial journey most of my clients are on — and I’ve made the mistakes, learned the hard lessons, and built systems that actually work.
My background spans more than a decade of hands-on financial work with individuals, families, and small businesses. I’m an Accredited Financial Counselor® (AFC®), a Wealth Management Certified Professional® (WMCP®), a Chartered Financial Consultant® (ChFC®), an IRS-registered Enrolled Agent (EA), a Military Qualified Financial Planner (MQFP), and a Series 65-licensed Investment Adviser Representative through HonorPoint Financial LLC, a fiduciary, state-registered investment adviser in Alaska — meaning I can speak to your budget, your debt strategy, your tax situation, your portfolio, and the unique financial landscape of military life, all in the same conversation.
But credentials only tell part of the story. I’ve also personally built, operated, and sold businesses — S-Corps and LLCs — which means when I sit down with a small business owner, I understand the decisions you face because I’ve faced them myself. Cash flow pressure, entity structure, tax implications, exit planning — these aren’t abstract concepts to me. They’re experiences.
Add to that a U.S. Army background that instilled a values-driven, mission-first approach to everything I do, and you get a financial guide who brings discipline, honesty, and genuine commitment to every client relationship.
I call myself a guide intentionally. Depending on what you need, I may show up as an advisor, a strategist, a planner, or a counselor. The role flexes. The commitment doesn’t.
My practice is built around one promise: you’ll always know why I’m recommending something, how it fits your life, and what to do next.

About HonorPoint Financial
At HonorPoint Financial, we help military families, individuals, and small business owners build financial clarity from the ground up. Whether you’re managing debt, preparing for homeownership, filing taxes, or navigating a PCS move, you get guidance from someone who’s lived it.I’m Matthew Gorrell, an Army combat veteran and IRS-Licensed Enrolled Agent. I hold the AFC®, WMCP®, ChFC®, EA, and MQFP® designations, so tax strategy, military benefits, and financial planning all work together instead of living in separate silos.
Delivered virtually by Zoom, so you get the same guidance whether you’re stationed here in Alaska or PCSing somewhere new.
Why HonorPoint Financial Exists
Most financial advisors focus on investments and wealth management. We start earlier than that — with the foundation. Budgeting, debt, credit, cash flow, and taxes are the things that actually determine whether a financial plan holds up, so that’s where we spend our time before anything else.
HonorPoint Financial was founded to give people a clear plan and someone in their corner to follow through on it. That means combining tax expertise (as an IRS-Licensed Enrolled Agent), counseling-based coaching (AFC®), and comprehensive planning (WMCP®) under one roof, instead of sending you to three different professionals who don’t talk to each other.
Whatever stage you’re starting from, you deserve a straightforward plan and someone who’ll walk it with you.
Our Services
From comprehensive financial planning to mortgage readiness, tax preparation, and tax strategy — expert, judgment-free guidance wherever you are on your financial journey. Delivered virtually from Wasilla, Alaska, to clients across the Mat-Su Valley and beyond.
Our Approach
Unlike firms that focus primarily on investments and wealth management, we concentrate on the fundamentals first, helping clients understand budgeting, credit, and debt thoroughly so that real financial progress can follow. We offer both pay-as-you-go sessions and a monthly subscription for ongoing coaching and accountability, depending on what fits your needs best.

Wealthtender® is a trusted, independent financial directory and educational resource governed by our strict Editorial Policy, Integrity Standards, and Terms of Use. While we receive compensation from featured professionals (a natural conflict of interest), we always operate with integrity and transparency to earn your trust. We Want Your Voice to be Heard
Wealthtender exists to help people discover trusted and authentic financial professionals and educators who may be a good fit based on their unique needs and circumstances.
Your honest reviews help people decide which financial professionals and educators may be best suited to their individual needs.
The majority of people trust reviews as much as personal recommendations, so what you write in your review should reflect your own opinion and experience.
Tips for Writing a Helpful Review
Be descriptive. Instead of just saying what you like or dislike, share why. What have you enjoyed most or least about your experience with the provider? Have they helped you overcome a difficult financial challenge or strengthened your knowledge about particular money matters? The more details, the better!
Be honest. Your rating and review should reflect your actual experience.
Stay relevant. Ensure your review is helpful to others by avoiding off-topic discussions or personal opinions not relevant to your direct experience.
Make your review easy to read. Reviews should be readable to others. Use proper grammar, avoid excessive capitalization or punctuation, and be sure to check your spelling.
Be yourself. Don’t post as, or pretend to be, someone else, and do not say you’re associated with a person or organization with which you are not.
Be nice. Don’t write abusive, hateful, threatening, or harassing content. Avoid personal threats, hate speech, obscenities, or inflammatory language.
Respect the privacy of others. Don’t post information that can be used to identify another individual or compromise their privacy.
Report abuse. Thank you for helping us ensure reviews on Wealthtender are helpful to everyone. If you suspect possible violations of our guidelines or believe a review is inappropriate, please email support@wealthtender.com with a link to the provider’s profile, indicating the review in question and the reason you believe it violates our guidelines.
