About Nicholas St.George, CFP®, CRPC®, CPFA, BFA

I help families, professionals, and business owners across Lake Norman and the greater Charlotte area retire on their own terms — with a written plan and a tax strategy, not a product pitch.

Most people I meet aren't starting from zero. They're 40 or older, they've done well, and they've accumulated a 401(k) here, an old rollover there, some company stock, maybe a business. What they don't have is a single document that tells them when they can retire, how much they can safely spend, and what the tax bill looks like across the next 30 years. That's the gap I close.

My clients typically come to me somewhere between "I think we're okay, but I'd like someone to check" and "I'd like to stop working in five years and I need to know if that's real." Both are good places to start.

What to expect in the first meeting

"That was way easier than I thought." That's the most common thing people say walking out of a first meeting. Most arrive braced for one of three things: a sales pitch, a lecture, or a pop quiz on how much they spend on takeout. You'll get none of the three. You don't need to prepare anything. No spreadsheets. No statements. No apologizing for the shoebox of paperwork in the closet. If you happen to have a recent statement or last year's tax return handy, great — bring them. If not, we'll get there later. Do not go digging through a kitchen drawer on my account. What we'll actually cover, in about 60 minutes: 1. Your life, not just your money. Where you want to be in five, ten, twenty years. What retirement looks like on a Tuesday. What you'd do with more time. What keeps you up at 2 a.m. 2. Where you stand today. A high-level read on what's working, what's exposed, and what's likely costing you in taxes you didn't know you were paying. 3. Whether we're a fit. Both directions. I turn away people I can't genuinely help, and you should feel free to do the same. What won't happen: - I won't sell you anything. - I won't ask you to decide anything on the spot. - I won't judge past decisions. Everybody has a financial skeleton or two. I've heard it all, and I've made a few of my own. - I won't rush you. What you leave with: - A clear sense of whether we click as people - A straight answer on where you stand and what your biggest opportunity is - Defined next steps — no homework pile, no cliffhanger And bring the question you've been embarrassed to ask someone else. There's no such thing as a dumb one, and that question is usually where the real money is. If we do decide to work together, the heavy lifting is mine. You will not need a finance degree to understand your own plan.

About St. George Wealth Management

St. George Wealth Management is an independent financial planning firm in Stanley, NC, serving families throughout the Lake Norman area and greater Charlotte, and clients nationwide by video.

Independence matters more than it sounds. We aren't owned by a bank, an insurance company, or a fund family — so there's no proprietary product to place and no quota shaping the recommendation. We work through LPL Financial, an independent broker-dealer and Registered Investment Advisor, for custody, research, and trading infrastructure, which means you get institutional capability without the house agenda that usually comes with it.

What we actually do differently

We plan around the tax bill, not past it.
Most retirement projections run on pre-tax balances, which quietly overstates what you have — sometimes by a quarter or more. We model taxes across your full retirement: Roth conversion windows, withdrawal sequencing, Social Security timing, Medicare IRMAA thresholds, capital gains. What you keep is the only number that spends.

You leave with a document.
Every planning client receives a written Retirement Blueprint — when you can retire, what you can safely spend, what the tax strategy is, and what happens if markets don't cooperate. You can hand it to your spouse. You can hand it to your CPA. It isn't a slide deck you see once.

We coordinate the whole picture.
Investments, taxes, employer benefits, insurance, and estate documents get planned together rather than in separate rooms by people who never speak. We work directly with your CPA and attorney, and where you don't have one, we bring in professionals we trust — including licensed attorneys through Trust & Will for estate documents.

How we work
Every client moves through the same four-step Anchor Process — Discover, Design, Deploy, Direct — so nothing depends on who remembered what. Planning engagements are priced as flat-fee tiers based on complexity; ongoing investment management is billed as a percentage of assets under management. Full details at stgeorgewealth.com/pricing.

What we handle
Retirement income planning · Tax planning analysis · Investment management · Estate planning coordination · Business owner and succession planning · Employer benefit plan review · Education funding · Cash flow and liquidity planning

Who we're built for
Families, professionals, and business owners age 40 and up, within roughly twenty years of retirement, who'd rather have a plan built around their life than a portfolio built around a model.

Our aim is straightforward: fewer surprises, clearer decisions, and a plan you understand well enough to explain to someone else.

FAQs

What makes your approach different?
Most advisors start with your portfolio. We start with your life. Your values, your goals, your timeline, your tax bracket that’s the foundation of the Anchor Proces. From there we build a written Retirement Blueprint and a tax-aware strategy that evolves with you, whether retirement is twenty years out or five yards from the end zone. The portfolio is how we execute the plan. It isn't the plan.
How are you compensated?
I'm a fee-based advisor, which means my compensation comes from a few clearly disclosed sources depending on what you hire me to do: - Flat-fee financial planning, priced in tiers based on complexity - Asset-based advisory fees for ongoing investment management, billed as a percentage of assets under management on a published breakpoint schedule - As a registered representative of LPL Financial, I may also receive commissions on certain brokerage products, such as insurance or annuities, when those are appropriate for your situation You'll know which applies to you, and what it costs Pricing
Are you a fiduciary?
Yes — and the honest answer is more specific than a one-word yes, so here it is. When I provide investment advisory services, I act as a fiduciary. That means I'm obligated to act in your best interest, disclose conflicts of interest, and put your interests ahead of my own in that advisory capacity. As a CFP® professional, I'm also held to CFP Board's fiduciary duty when providing financial advice. I also offer brokerage services through LPL Financial, where a different standard of care applies. If we're ever operating in that capacity, I'll tell you plainly which hat I'm wearing.
Where is my money held? Is it safe?
Your accounts are custodied at LPL Financial, an independent broker-dealer and Registered Investment Advisor, Member FINRA/SIPC. I don't take custody of client assets — I never hold your money, and checks are never written to me or to St. George Wealth Management. You get secure 24/7 online access through LPL ClientView to view balances, performance, statements, and documents anytime. ClientView
I already have investments. Can you work with what I have?
Absolutely — and most new clients arrive exactly that way, with accounts collected over twenty or thirty years across four or five institutions. We review what you own, why you own it, whether it still fits the plan, and what it would cost in taxes to change it. Sometimes the answer is to leave something alone. Low-basis stock, an old annuity with a valuable rider, a 401(k) with unusually good institutional pricing — these can be worth keeping, and I'll tell you when that's the case. We're not here to reinvent the wheel. Unless the wheel is square.
Will you work with my CPA, estate attorney, or other professionals?
Yes, and I prefer it. Most expensive financial mistakes happen in the gaps between professionals who never talk to each other — a Roth conversion your CPA didn't know about, a beneficiary designation that quietly overrides the trust your attorney drafted. I coordinate directly with your existing team, and if you don't have one, I can introduce you to professionals I trust.
What happens if the market drops?
We plan for it before it happens, because it will. Your strategy is built with diversification, defined risk parameters, cash-flow reserves so you're never forced to sell into a downturn to pay for groceries, tax-aware rebalancing, and a long-term time horizon that matches your actual retirement date. And if you find yourself panicking? Call me. Ideally before the cold-sweat decision, not after.
What technology will I use to manage my finances?
Four tools, each doing one job well: - LPL ClientWorks— secure 24/7 access to accounts, performance, documents, and communications - RightCapital — retirement projections, "what-if" scenarios, Social Security timing, withdrawal sequencing, and stress-testing your plan against bad markets - Holistiplan — reads your actual tax return and surfaces planning opportunities most plans miss entirely - Trust & Will— modern estate document preparation, integrated with your financial plan
What’s the minimum to work with you?
Financial planning has no investment minimum. That's deliberate — it lets me work with professionals still building wealth and business owners whose net worth is tied up in the business rather than in a brokerage account. Ongoing investment management does have a portfolio minimum, so I can build and maintain a properly diversified, tax-efficient strategy. Current planning tiers and fee schedules are at stgeorgewealth.com/pricing, and I'll confirm where you fall on our first call. Pricing
Will I actually hear from you?
Yes, and proactively. Depending on your planning tier and asset level, we'll meet two to four times per year, with check-ins whenever life changes — a job move, an inheritance, a health event, a business sale. No phone trees. No disappearing acts. No "set it and forget it."
