About Sean Williams, CFP, RICP, MBA
I got into financial planning after serving 7 years as an amphibious assault officer in the Marine Corps. I figured after driving floating tanks filled with Marines, what translates better in the real world than helping people with complex financial decisions? I also held Linguistics and Political Science degrees from the University of Florida, so, naturally, that made me eminently qualified to perform in-depth mathematical calculations.Joking aside, the real reason I took the leap into the financial planning world had to do with my family. I witnessed an unusually high divorce rate in the military and kids being without their parents during big life milestones because of training or deployments. I made a commitment to myself, my wife, and my son (and future kids) that I would be present for everything. We would never miss an event, big or small.
This career path offered the opportunity to maximize time with my family while, at the same time, helping guide other families through incredibly complex and emotional conversations. I always joke with people that I’m actually a therapist, rather than a financial coach.
