About Me

Amar Shah founded Client First Capital to create a platform that reflects his values and provides impartial, evidence-based advice to his clients around maximizing their financial well-being. Amar strongly believes that integrity, transparency, knowledge, and insight are core values for a successful, long-term client relationship.

Amar has more than 20 years of experience in the financial industry, helping individuals, families, and businesses achieve their financial goals. He is experienced in estate planning advice, retirement planning, and risk management. He and his team help clients protect, distribute, and grow their wealth, and they are committed to cultivating long-lasting client relationships based on trust and mutual respect.

Prior to founding Client First Capital, Amar was a Senior Wealth Manager at USAA for 8 years, and before USAA, he was a vice president within J.P. Morgan’s wealth management division in New York City. Amar holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and is also a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®) practitioner and abides by the code of ethics and fiduciary standards of these best-in-class industry designations.

A native of San Diego, Amar grew up in Rancho Penasquitos, California. Amar has a deep commitment to service and community, having served as a firefighter for the City of Poway.

He attended the University of California, Riverside, where he received a Bachelor of Science in computer engineering. He was also a board member of CFA Society’s San Diego Chapter, holding the position of Advocacy Chair.

An avid sportsman, Amar enjoys ultra-endurance events and has completed multiple Ironman 70.3 races. He has climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, hiked the West Highland Highway, and completed the Rock ‘n’ Roll San Diego Marathon. Most recently, he has completed the iconic swim, Escape from Alcatraz.

When he is not training, he serves as a race guard, helping administer first aid at races in Southern California. Amar is also a nature enthusiast and enjoys sharing his love of the outdoors with his wife and two young daughters.

Amar has been my family's most trusted financial planner for so many years now he is truly a part of our family. He has personally helped me navigate different financial situations with such ease! Amar Shaw has been our financial advisor for almost 10 years. Initially we were affiliated through his role as an advisor with USAA. We were always pleased with his professional approach to financial planning. Detailed personal meetings resulted in a very specific plan dependent on our goals, expectations, risk tolerance and many other factors unique to us. Amar has helped us invest through a time of income generated through work to our current situation as a retired couple. When USAA changed its model for individual advisors contact with clients, Amar decided to leave and establish his own firm, Client First Capital. We elected to leave USAA and stay with Amar. We are delighted with this decision. Amar made the transition seamless and his Client First on line portal is excellent and provides much better account information than we previously obtained. Amar utilizes a disciplined and data driven approach. He has provided calm, intelligent and effective advice throughout periods of great volatility in the current investment environment. He continues excellent personal communication through email phone and in person meetings. He is always available for consultation. We would give him a 5 star recommendation.

Find Amar to guide me through the challenges with midlife financial decisions has been a huge weight off my shoulders. He is guiding me through Traditional vs ROTH IRA moves and when is the right time to do it has been great. He has brought up so many things I didn't think about when I made financial decisions in the past. Having an expert on my side has been wonderful. Easy to reach via phone and email and love the website for organizing my financial life and all the pieces that make it up (not just investments).

My husband & I started with Amar many, many years ago when he was with his previous employer. There was an instant rapport that has lasted to this day.
