About Me

Hello, I’m Daniel Kopp – husband to Anna, widower to Sarah, Air Force veteran, business owner, writer, speaker, financial planner, and Christ-follower.

I’m the founder of Wise Stewardship Financial Planning where we offer fee-only, fiduciary financial planning and investment advice with a special focus on young widows and widowers as well as servicemembers and their families.

I’ve always been interested in money since I was a little kid, including out-bidding my siblings for chores-for-hire, to providing loans to my siblings and friends when they had spent all their money and diligently saving my allowance for future goals. Over time this evolved into reading the stock pages in the newspaper as a young teenager and then choosing to major in economics in college. After completing Air Force ROTC at Purdue University, I commissioned as an officer into the Air Force in 2009 but continued my personal interest into personal finances, investing, and all things money-related.

In addition to being a CFP® practitioner, I’ve spent thousands of hours studying financial planning topics and also have a Masters at in Financial Planning and Financial Therapy from Kansas State University. I also had the opportunity to be a volunteer financial counselor during many of the years when I was on active duty in addition to helping and educating family and friends over the years. Thanks to countless help along the way, I learned more about the financial services industry and found my way to fee-only, fiduciary financial planning.

As an officer on active duty for almost 9 years, along with a brother, sister, and brother-in-law in the military, I experienced firsthand the benefits and challenges that military life can have on all aspects of life especially finances. Frequent changes like TDY’s, deployments, and PCS’s add unique potential opportunities and obstacles to meeting goals and dreams. Add in the often disparate and sometimes confusing military pay, benefits, scattered military benefits and discounts, and countless people offering advice or services, and there is often a lack of clarity on how best to optimize all of these to best meet goals.

I also know that grief is hard. I know because I’ve walked that road before. Like you, I know what loss is like and how it affects your financial life. It is my honor to compassionately guide my clients with financial planning and advice as a trusted companion in your ongoing grief journey.

About our Firm

We are uniquely positioned to help widows and widowers figure out what’s next.

✅ Fiduciary: That’s just a big fancy word meaning that we only work in your best interest 100% of the time and are personally liable if we give bad advice. We put it in writing by signing a fiduciary oath to prove it.

✅ Fee-Only: The only way we are compensated is by you, our client. We believe in clear, transparent pricing, and we never take any commissions or have any hidden fees. We only work for you. Period.

✅ Our Story: Like you, we know what loss is like and how it affects your financial life. We compassionately guide our clients with financial planning and advice as a trusted companion in your ongoing grief journey.

--

Are you a widow or widower? I’d love to help you.

Grief is exhausting. And confusing. And crushingly hard.

Maybe you’re struggling where even to begin? What to do next?

You can’t force an order on that kind of pain. You can’t make grief tidy or predictable. Grief is as individual as love: every life, every path, is unique.

In the midst of all that, your financial life might be completely rearranged, irrevocably changed by loss of income or even by life insurance or other death benefits.

If your grief is anything like mine was, just getting through the day-to-day responsibilities was hard enough. Trying to figure out your finances might seem crushing or impossible.

There is no “moving on” from grief. It will always be a part of you. But, there is moving forward and taking the next step. As a trusted partner and companion in your grief journey, we can help you do that with your finances.

We take the next step at your own pace, prioritizing each financial decision based on your needs and specific situation. Having that kind of financial clarity can be a transformative feeling. And with that clarity, you can start making choices that help take care of those you love. Together, we get clear on what your financial life looks like right now so you can understand the full picture.

We have both intense personal experience as well as training in helping grieving people and are experienced in how to be sensitive to those specific needs. We provide you with objective, impartial and confidential advice to help you find answers at your pace and give you peace of mind.

Choosing to work with WSFP was one of the best decisions I made

As a new widow, I needed to find someone who could help me navigate important decisions on my own. It’s hard to find a financial planner who isn’t just looking for commissions or trying to sell you a financial product. Daniel on the other hand is a “fee-only” fiduciary planner, which means he gets paid for the time he takes to work out a plan that’s best for you. His services are holistic, so he helped me with choices about health insurance, employment decisions, and tax strategy. As a widower, he personally knows the pain of grief and so speaking with him about the unique struggles widows felt easy. After three and a half years of working with Wise Stewardship Financial Planning, I have moved from fearful to confident about my money management and investing. Choosing to trust WSFP with my financial planning was one of the best decisions I made after I lost my husband.

I wish I could remember how I found Daniel and Wisesteward Financial Planning. After my husband passed and I realized how little I knew about our finances or my financial future I called Daniel and never looked back. He understood both my grief and my lack of understanding and patiently worked with me to overcome my fears, educate me and actually give me hope for a future. I consider him my trusted financial advisor and have recommended him to several widows and widowers.

Daniel has helped us prioritize what we really want in our lives and has helped us figure out a plan to get there. We’ve been his clients for years and it’s an investment we’ve gotten back 10 fold! Not just financially. Because finances aren’t really a stress point, especially when it comes to savings goals, investing, and retirement — we’ve benefited emotionally and relationally as well. Daniel’s wisdom and experience have been invaluable when it comes to financial planning. Definitely our best investment yet. Thank you, Daniel!

I chose Daniel after interviewing about ten fee-only fiduciaries. He was my third interview and even through the rest, there was no question in my mind he was the one I would choose. Daniel is a brilliant expert, educator, listener, and anything else positive that comes to your mind. Through Daniel’s own very meaningful professional and personal experiences, he channels a level of empathy and expertise that I don’t think any other advisor could offer. I have never felt so confident to be on the perfect path for myself, especially as a veteran. But I loved Daniel’s partnership so much I recommended him to my sister (a non-veteran) and she also could not be happier. You will not regret your choice!

My husband and I have been working with Daniel for four years now when I was military. We have appreciated his insights into the uniqueness of military income. He recently helped us transition to civilian jobs and his expertise was invaluable. He has taken time to get to know us and understand our values so he can take that into consideration. He helps us maintain focus on financial goals within the bigger picture of other personal and family goals.

My husband and I knew Daniel from our Active Duty military service time. After we all went our different ways in the civilian world, my husband I quickly realized we had different stories, backgrounds, and goals surrounding money. We needed someone to guide us through our financial journey. We reached out to a few other financial planners before connecting with Daniel but none compared to Daniel's kindness, compassion, and patience in the financial planning journey. He is truly a blessing for our life. We are in constant contact with Daniel when making small or big decisions in life to see how it could change our financial goals. He is a true partner in our journey. I highly recommend reach out to Daniel to make him a partner in your journey too.

Daniel has been our financial advisor for years now and his experience, passion for taking care of us, and enjoyment in his work has born fruit for us! Not simply in terms of growth, but also in providing us with solid sense of security and time with our family as he not only picks up money management efforts from us, but also has revealed some areas that could use some attention (with suggested solutions!). Thank you Daniel for being on our team as we move forward with financial security, and helping maximize our future with the blessings we have.

I've been working with Daniel since October 2020, and I can't emphasize enough just how outstanding he is as a financial planner. He has helped me with organizing my finances, making the transition from military to civilian life, maximizing my savings rate to meet my early financial independence goals, optimizing my investment allocations, planning for taxes, refreshing my legacy plan, analyzing real estate deals, and so much more. Beyond the tangible progress in my financial standing, Daniel has had a profound impact on my overall sense of financial well-being. His compassion and heart-driven approach set him apart in the world of financial planning. He really does put the personal in personal finance. Furthermore, I admire that he stays up to date on financial trends, pursues continuing education, and regularly attends conferences in his industry making him passionate, competent, and reliable. I can trust that he will give me timely and relevant advice that suits my needs and goals. From the very beginning, I was struck by his exceptional listening skills. He asks insightful questions, and has always taken ample time to understand my financial goals as they relate to my life values. His attention to detail shows through his diligent notes and follow-up with action items after every call. His responsiveness is second to none, whether it's through video calls, emails, or text messages – he's always just a message away. I can ask him any question on personal finances and he does an excellent job answering, teaching, explaining, and/or referring me to other experts. He is generous with sharing financial education, not only the nuts and bolts but also the emotional side of it through his regular email newsletters and book recommendations. Supporting a small business like Daniel's has been a rewarding experience. I've derived immeasurable value from his services and can confidently say that I envision being a lifelong client. Daniel is not just an exemplary financial planner; he is a kind and upstanding individual and family man, and I consider it an absolute privilege to be his client.

A Perfect Fit

It was about 3 years after losing my husband suddenly that I finally decided I should probably deal with our financial situation. I had been a stay at home mom of 3 kids for 20 years and was so broken and grief stricken that I didn’t care at all about our finances. Money was flying out the window and I was oblivious. One hundred percent of my focus was on my kids, making sure they were okay. I just didn’t care about much else. Knowing what I know now, I do regret not finding a financial advisor sooner. One day in 2019, I sat down at my computer and Googled “Christian widow, financial advisor”. Daniel Kopp and WSFP popped up. My husband’s name was also Daniel and after reading about his story and speaking with him I knew he was sent my way and exactly who I needed in my life. Over the course of the past few years Daniel has been there to help guide me in all issues related to my finances. He is my “go to” guy when making big decisions around money and I trust him completely. I knew very little about our situation as my husband took care of our finances yet Daniel has never made me feel bad about that. He is one of the most intelligent men I know and I value his opinion greatly. He is also one of the kindest men I know. Daniel knows what it’s like to lose a spouse and he has been a great comfort to me on my grief journey. With Daniel you aren’t just getting an advisor, you are getting someone who truly “gets it” and just wants to help others succeed. Daniel has given me such a sense of pride. I have been able to stay in my home, put my kids through school and now have a healthy financial plan for the future. I know with 100% certainty that my husband would be so proud of me. There is no way I’d be okay financially without Daniel and WSFP. Simply put Daniel Kopp is one of the good guys and I do believe God….and Google sent him to me. I highly recommend him.
