Joel Larsen began his career by serving in the United States Marine Corps from 1973 until 1982. He then spent the next eight years in the computer retail business, both in sales and management. During this time he also served as a Reserve Deputy Sheriff in St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana.
In 1990 Mr. Larsen entered the financial services industry, and took the Larsen Financial Strategies Group independent in 2004. The name of the firm was changed to Navion Financial Advisors in 2009.
He writes articles for magazines, trade journals, newspapers and newsletters. He has been interviewed, written about, and /or quoted by Smart Money, Money Magazine, Business Week, USA Today, the Sacramento Business Journal, Wealth Manager Magazine, MSNBC.com, PlanAdvisor, National Underwriter, the Journal of Financial Planning, and Financial Planning Magazine, as well as by newspapers, radio and television stations around the country.
Joel teaches continuing education classes for CPAs, attorneys and other professionals, and has taught evening classes on Investment and Financial Planning Strategies through area community colleges. He is a private pilot, swims with the Davis Aquatic Masters, and enjoys Crossfit, trail runs, woodworking, fishing, camping, and other outdoor activities.
He has served on the board of directors for the Financial Planning Association of Northern California. He currently serves on the Yolo County Airport Advisory Committee and the Yolo County Sheriff’s Aero Squadron.
