My wife and I have been planning to relocate from the USA to Europe for several years, however we had been struggling with a few hurdles on the international tax planning front. I consider myself more or less competent in US tax law and planning, but lacked the knowledge to ensure we had the right strategy when moving abroad. We interviewed several advisors, however struggled finding anyone that met our needs until we met Malissa.
After initially working with a firm in the EU country we'll be relocating to, we were referred by word of mouth to Malissa and hired her to help validate and corroborate our understanding of how our US based assets would be taxed after relocating out of the country. Malissa not only helped provide additional detail and clarification around several nuanced aspects of how our assets would be taxed, she also interfaced directly with the firm helping us in the EU giving me the confidence our plan has been optimized before we pull the trigger and become tax residents of another country.
Some additional background on our particular situation, I previously worked for an international company as an expat with both 'standard' and 'hypothetical' tax returns. Malissa felt like a perfect match given her prior experience working as a tax manager for one of the Big Four accounting firms handling expatriate tax returns.
We have not used her tax preparation services yet, however we have full confidence in her abilities and plan to leverage her in few years when we need to submit returns both in the EU and USA.
Lastly, it should go without saying but she's a fee based advisor not working off a commission which is the only way to go if you want a true fiduciary.
