About Matt Smith, CFA®, CFP®
Hi, I'm Matt Smith. Before launching Concert Financial Planning, I spent 14 years working for asset managers that built mutual funds and exchange-traded funds (ETF’s) for investors around the world. My clients were financial advisors at large bank brokerages and independent firms across the central United States, and my role was to educate them on my company’s investment products, economic views, portfolio construction, industry trends, and much more.
This background is relevant because it afforded me the opportunity to work with thousands of financial advisors across the country, sharing best practices for everything from investment portfolio construction and financial planning techniques to investor education and client service models.
Along the way, I complemented that real-world experience with ongoing education through certification programs focused on investment analysis, portfolio construction, and financial planning.
All of this has culminated in my ability to apply this deep knowledge for the benefit of my clients. I have seen many different structures for financial advisory firms and have chosen to operate as an independent advisor with a fiduciary duty to my clients at all times.
I have seen the pitfalls that come with emotional investing and have chosen to follow a well-defined investment process that focuses on clients’ individual needs rather than on the latest headlines. I have seen the results of stagnation in education and have chosen to continue learning through formal certification programs so that I can remain at the forefront of financial research, techniques, and opportunities to get better at my craft.
✅ Motivation
I have found that there is a clear lack of financial expertise and guidance made available to people that are not in retirement or retiring soon. High earning individuals and young families can and should get on the right financial path much earlier than they often do.
One of the problems with the old financial services model is that it relied on a client having a large investment account to pay for financial advice, resulting in a myopic focus on people that had already done much of the hard work of building a large savings account on their own. However, because these clients did not have proper planning guidance in the early stages of their careers, there were often missed opportunities and problems that built up over time.
My firm is built to make expert financial advice available to people early on so that they can take advantage of the greatest investment opportunity - time - and so that we can make plans to avoid costly mistakes down the road. The result is confidence and security in your financial life so that you can invest your time and energy into the things that matter most to you.

About Concert Financial Planning
Concert Financial Planning is a financial planning firm designed for BigLaw attorneys. As a Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) in Texas and Georgia, we are bound by the Fiduciary Standard, meaning that we must act in the best interest of our clients at all times. Additionally, we earn compensation on a fee-only basis, which means that we do not sell products or accept commissions and are instead compensated solely for our advice. The goal is to mitigate conflicts of interest that can arise when an advisor can be paid differently depending on what they recommend to a client.
The firm is built to work with clients that are smart enough to “do it themselves” but prefer to deploy their time and resources to their own career, family, and interests. We have organized our service offerings to align with the career path of an attorney starting out as a BigLaw Associate and growing into their career, wherever it takes them. Wherever you are on the journey, we’re ready to help you.

Tips for Writing a Helpful Review
Be descriptive. Instead of just saying what you like or dislike, share why. What have you enjoyed most or least about your experience with the provider? Have they helped you overcome a difficult financial challenge or strengthened your knowledge about particular money matters? The more details, the better!
Be honest. Your rating and review should reflect your actual experience.
Stay relevant. Ensure your review is helpful to others by avoiding off-topic discussions or personal opinions not relevant to your direct experience.
Make your review easy to read. Reviews should be readable to others. Use proper grammar, avoid excessive capitalization or punctuation, and be sure to check your spelling.
Be yourself. Don’t post as, or pretend to be, someone else, and do not say you’re associated with a person or organization with which you are not.
Be nice. Don’t write abusive, hateful, threatening, or harassing content. Avoid personal threats, hate speech, obscenities, or inflammatory language.
Respect the privacy of others. Don’t post information that can be used to identify another individual or compromise their privacy.
