About Peter Coughlin, CSA®
Peter Coughlin works with people from all walks of life who have either retired or are about to retire to protect and grow their wealth. He serves as a guide to help them make some of life’s most significant decisions including, “When can I retire?” or, “How can I protect my family if something happens to me?”As a Certified Senior Advisor®, he helps older adults prepare for and navigate the changing needs of their later years. Many of his clients own a business or are doctors, nurses, lawyers, CPAs, or engineers.
With more than 30 years of experience in the wealth management field, Peter is as energized as ever to help others and says, “To see the relief on a client’s face when they realize they can retire or that their family will be okay never gets old.”
Peter was born and raised in Pittsfield, where he raised 4 kids and continues to live with his wife, Sheila. On weekends, Peter can be found cycling, or hiking the Appalachian Trail. He has volunteered for numerous local initiatives, coached youth soccer and basketball, and is a former Big Brother.

I partnered with Berkshire Money Management primarily to get peace of mind as I worked my way through some significant financial decisions and in preparation for retirement. They have provided not only peace of mind, but the confidence that my assets are in good hands. Quarterly reviews with my financial advisor assure me that BMM has my interests in mind. And if my advisor has any question about his advice or if I have questions he cannot answer, there are several others in the organization that are ready to jump in. BMM is also a fiduciary, which is very important to me. I highly recommend BMM.

My wife and I have been clients of Berkshire Money Management (BMM) for over 10 years, and Peter Coughlin has been our advisor for more than half that time. We are grateful for Peter and the BMM Team for guiding us into retirement, and beyond. When you are preparing to retire, you always ask, “do we have sufficient assets to retire, and will we be able to do the things we’ve dreamed about doing”? Its not a simple question to answer. But Peter, along with Zack and Lauren, asked the right questions, crunched the numbers, and answered with a resounding “Yes”. But they also developed and documented our financial planning “tools” for investing, spending, and Social Security that give us the continued confidence to enjoy travel, family and fun in our retirement years. (I use the word “tools”, because this is not a rigid prescription, but a flexible planning model that can change as your plans and dreams change.) That’s the financial piece of retirement. But there’s more to retirement than just the financial plan. There’s Estate planning, the legal documents (POA’s, Health Care Proxies, Wills and Trusts), Health Insurance, and Social Security. Berkshire Money Management has helped us with all of that, so we have a complete guide for now and beyond. Along the way, we meet regularly with Peter; a couple of times a year, for portfolio reviews, future plan updates, and life-change updates. Peter is always prompt to guide us, or schedule us with the appropriate expert, so we can complete the next steps. He, of course, is available any time, if we have questions or need advice. Do we pay attention to our investments? Yes, of course. It’s not that we worry but we’re curious about their performance. Because of BMM, with Peter’s guidance, we have confidence that our financial, retirement, and estate plans are solid and strong. We’ve recommended Peter and BMM to our family, and they’ve become clients too. Whatever your age, if you are thinking about your financial future, we recommend you give Berkshire Money Management a call.

Over the last 8 years, my wife & I have experienced a consistent, honest & conservatively recommended approach based on our age & changing circumstances. BMM has a staff that is always courteous and knowledgeable. as well as accommodating. Retiring can be overwhelming when considering all the variables for our future. BMM will help find options and guide you to make informed decisions about Medicare premiums, when is the best time to take social security, and how to plan your future.
