About Warren Covert

Hi, I'm Warren Covert. I'm the Founder and Principal Advisor of FSO Wealth.

As an Eligible Family Member (EFM), I've experienced firsthand the opportunities and challenges that come with Foreign Service life. During our first overseas tour, I worked in both the GSO and ECON sections at one of our largest embassies. That experience gave me an inside view of how the Foreign Service operates, and the unique challenges officers and their families face throughout their careers.

When families are focused on PCS moves, new assignments, school transitions, CODELs, and everything else that comes with life overseas, financial planning can easily take a backseat. Starting over every two to three years only adds to the challenge. Over time, it can become increasingly difficult to measure progress, even when you feel like you've finally built a solid financial foundation.

That's why I developed our annual service calendar, a proactive planning process designed specifically for Foreign Service families. Rather than reacting to financial decisions as they arise, we focus on the right topics at the right time throughout the year. This structured approach helps ensure important opportunities and decisions aren't overlooked during the constant transitions that come with this lifestyle.

Too often, families seek financial advice when a major decision is already in front of them. By then, their options may be more limited because the groundwork wasn't put in place early enough. Our goal is to prepare you for the decisions you know are coming, and the ones you don't. That way, when the time comes to act, you're ready.

Before founding FSO Wealth, I worked in corporate financial planning and analysis, helping organizations forecast budgets and make long-term strategic decisions. I left that career when our family began our first overseas assignment. I'm also a dual U.S.-Dutch citizen, and navigating financial decisions across borders, time zones, and countries has been part of both my personal and professional life for many years.

About FSO Wealth

At FSO Wealth, we help the Foreign Service community bring structure to their finances so they're prepared for the decisions they know are coming and the ones they don't. From TSP and FSPS planning to taxes, investments, rental properties, and retirement, we help ensure financial decisions stay aligned throughout overseas assignments, career transitions, and beyond.

Who We Serve

Our specialty is serving the Foreign Service community and dual-career households. If one career touches the Foreign Service and the other is in the private sector, there's a good chance we're a great fit.

We understand firsthand the challenges that come with the Foreign Service lifestyle. Whether you're navigating a PCS, managing overseas allowances, deciding between Roth and traditional TSP contributions, planning for retirement under FSPS, or managing a rental property back home, the financial decisions you face are often very different from those of households that stay in one place.

Our Services

Every plan is personalized, but most clients seek guidance on retirement planning, investment strategy, tax planning, cash flow management, education funding, real estate decisions, and building long-term wealth.

Our Approach

Clients receive access to our secure planning portal, where they can view their financial plan, track progress, and keep important information organized from anywhere in the world. We offer both ongoing planning relationships and one-time comprehensive financial plans, providing flexibility as needs and circumstances change.

FAQs

Do you actually understand FSPS, TSP, and Foreign Service benefits?
Yes. Foreign Service financial planning is the focus of this practice, not a niche we occasionally serve. The planning process is built around FSPS, TSP, overseas allowances, assignment-driven moves, and EFM career transitions because those are recurring issues for the families we serve.
Are you a fiduciary, and how do you get paid?
Yes. We're fiduciaries, which means we're legally obligated to put our clients' interests first. Everything we're paid comes from the people we work with, never from a fund company, bank, insurer, or custodian. We charge a flat fee for advisory work. No commissions. No revenue sharing. No fees tied to the size of your accounts.
Do you work with people currently posted overseas?
Yes, and the practice is built for it. Meetings are virtual, usually via Microsoft Teams, and our scheduling link shows availability in your local time zone. Whether you're in Nairobi, Frankfurt, or Bogotá, we find a time that works at your post.
