About Doug Oosterhart, CFP®
Hi, I'm Doug Oosterhart. I work with people who are within about ten years of retirement or already retired, and here's what I've learned in over a decade of doing this: retirement doesn't simplify your finances. In many ways, it's the most financially complex stretch of your life.Your portfolio still needs to grow because retirement can last thirty years or more. Your savings now have to produce income, on a schedule, in every kind of market. And with money spread across taxable accounts, pre-tax retirement accounts, and Roth dollars, nearly every withdrawal is a tax decision, whether you treat it as one or not.
Our job is to coordinate all three. That means an investment strategy built around when you'll actually need the money, a withdrawal plan that draws from the right accounts in the right order, and tax planning that looks ahead to Roth conversion windows, Social Security timing, and Medicare premium thresholds instead of reacting each April.
I founded LifePoint Planning, an independent Registered Investment Adviser, on two ideas that shouldn't be rare in this industry: high-net-worth clients often pay far more in percentage-based fees than they need to, and investments, tax strategy, and legacy planning should be coordinated as one plan. Your CPA and attorney each see their piece; someone should be looking at the whole. That's why we offer transparent flat-fee pricing and build plans that address taxes both year-to-year and across your lifetime.
Core philosophies:
✅ Control the controllables. Nobody controls the market day-to-day. Fees, taxes, asset location, and behavior are a different story.
✅ The plan comes first. Your portfolio is the funding medium for the plan, not the other way around.
✅ Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication. You should understand your plan and why we're doing what we're doing.
✅ Be direct. I'll tell you what you need to hear, not what you want to hear. Otherwise, why hire an advisor at all?

About LifePoint Planning
LifePoint Planning is a comprehensive financial planning firm serving clients virtually across the United States. We specialize in retirement planning, tax strategy, and investment management for people who are retired or within about ten years of it, typically with meaningful savings spread across taxable, pre-tax, and Roth accounts.Every engagement starts with the plan, not the portfolio. We clarify your goals first, because the portfolio is only the funding medium for the plan, not the other way around.
One of the first things we work through together is your retirement income style. Some people want more guarantees behind their income. Others are comfortable letting the market do more of the work. Neither answer is wrong, and we stay strategy agnostic so the income plan fits you rather than forcing you into the approach a firm happens to sell.
Taxes run through everything we do. Which accounts you draw from, in what order, and when you convert or realize gains can matter as much over a long retirement as the investments themselves, so we plan for taxes both year-to-year and across your lifetime.
Just as important as the plan is staying with it. We coach our clients through every kind of market so that one bad year, or one emotional decision, doesn't undo decades of good ones.

Tips for Writing a Helpful Review
Be descriptive. Instead of just saying what you like or dislike, share why. What have you enjoyed most or least about your experience with the provider? Have they helped you overcome a difficult financial challenge or strengthened your knowledge about particular money matters? The more details, the better!
Be honest. Your rating and review should reflect your actual experience.
Stay relevant. Ensure your review is helpful to others by avoiding off-topic discussions or personal opinions not relevant to your direct experience.
Make your review easy to read. Reviews should be readable to others. Use proper grammar, avoid excessive capitalization or punctuation, and be sure to check your spelling.
Be yourself. Don’t post as, or pretend to be, someone else, and do not say you’re associated with a person or organization with which you are not.
Be nice. Don’t write abusive, hateful, threatening, or harassing content. Avoid personal threats, hate speech, obscenities, or inflammatory language.
Respect the privacy of others. Don’t post information that can be used to identify another individual or compromise their privacy.
Report abuse. Thank you for helping us ensure reviews on Wealthtender are helpful to everyone. If you suspect possible violations of our guidelines or believe a review is inappropriate, please email support@wealthtender.com with a link to the provider’s profile, indicating the review in question and the reason you believe it violates our guidelines.
