Historically I managed household expenses and investment decisions personally with collaboration/approval of my wife; we did not have a financial advisor. We paid our bills, saved some money, tithed to our church and got our two daughters through college with very little debt. Another words, we were stable financially; along the way we felt that we were making good decisions, however a few which typically were made in haste with the hope of a quick buck turned out to be major mistakes.
Then a significant life transition occurred 10+ years ago. The company for which I had worked for several years merged with a larger firm which resulted in cash payment for our company stock as it was an employee owned firm. So, with a sizeable check in my hand a decision had to be made as to what to do with it. Obviously I was not alone in this, so we decided to invite Jeff Hall of Rather & Kittrell to speak to our group and respond to questions. I was very impressed with Jeff's presentation, and after further private discussions, my wife and I decided to place our future financial wellbeing to Jeff and R&K.
Much of our time together in the early days was spent providing Jeff with our life circumstances, hopes and dreams, family relationships, risk tolerance, etc., and through that confirming our trust in Jeff and his judgement. He encouraged us to become debt free (which we have), and other matters which were beyond pure investing but very important to our long term wellbeing.
Then came a second transition. We both retired and thus entered a new phase of life with SS instead of bi-weekly paychecks. We turned over our 401K/IRA's to Jeff to invest consistent with our previously agreed strategy. All has gone well; in particular his calming influence to stick with "the plan" even in difficult market circumstances.
A final personal word... Jeff has become a good friend, much like a member of our family. He is a consummate professional backed by a great organization; and very important to us, also a strong Christian business and family man.
