About Me

Syl Michelin is a Chartered Financial Analyst and fee-only, fiduciary financial advisor who works with cross-border families and American expatriates.

Syl’s wealth management journey began in 2007 when he joined Citi Private Bank. He spent the following decade with Citi working as a Private Banker in some of the world’s financial hubs: Geneva, London, and most recently, New York City. In 2018, he joined Thun Financial as an International Investment Advisor and became a member of the firm’s investment committee.

Syl joined Walkner Condon in 2020 with the goal of building a client-centric practice in a boutique environment. With the ever-increasing complexity of cross-border investing and planning, Syl’s goal is to be a partner in his client’s success: simplifying their financial life so they can focus on what’s important to them, whether that’s running a business, focusing on their career or just spending time with family.

Syl was raised in France and graduated from the New York Institute of Technology. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and is a member of the Madison CFA Society.

Syl lives in Madison with his wife Melanie. In his spare time, he enjoys running and spending time in the Wisconsin outdoors. He was once an okay golfer, and also has created his own variety of yet unnamed cheese, which could be his claim to fame.

About our Firm

Ensuring that our clients have the tools and knowledge to face the future with confidence is at the heart of Walkner Condon’s process.

While some may want a one-time plan, as fiduciary financial advisors, we strongly believe in being a long-term partner that our clients can trust to achieve their financial goals. We understand your life is complex and can have many twists and turns, which is why your financial plan should continually evolve to mirror those life changes.

We also believe in helping educate our clients on all aspects of their financial lives through regular meetings and transparent communication. This starts with building, revising and explaining a comprehensive financial plan, complemented by our videos, podcasts, and blog posts. Whether you’re a current client or just checking us out, we’d encourage you to subscribe to our newsletter by visiting our website.

Walkner Condon Financial Advisors provide custom investment solutions for our clients. We will help you identify what portfolio series best fit your financial objectives and risk tolerance. While many advisors are inflexible with inherent biases towards passive or active management, we believe strongly in offering choice in investment strategy. We also offer portfolios that seek to align investment objectives with client values.

✅ We believe that the bulk of client’s portfolios should be invested in a globally diversified manner and that clients benefit from a “buy and hold” approach rather than one that attempts to time the markets.

✅ We seek to utilize funds that are low in cost relative to their peers and categories and are generally tax efficient, though there are times where we may consider funds that are higher in cost or turnover if we determine it makes sense from an allocation standpoint.

✅ We offer our clients choice in their asset management strategy and are not absolute in our views in the debate between active and passive management.
