About Me

Hi, I'm Russ Thornton. I’ve been managing wealth for over 25 years and have helped countless women get ready for retirement, care for their families, build wealth—and most importantly, live great lives.

When I was a young man, my mother went through a divorce.

Despite being a smart and hard-working woman, the divorce led to some significant financial challenges. For example, she was forced to declare personal bankruptcy.

What she needed was someone in her corner to help her navigate financial uncertainty and look out for her best interests.

Unfortunately, I was too young to help her. As an adult, I devoted my career to becoming a champion for women like my mother. That’s why I started Wealthcare for Women: to empower you to make financial decisions that enable you to live a great life—without having to worry about money.

Beyond business, here are some things you should know about me.

1️⃣ I love music. I love playing it, listening to it, thinking about it… You name it, I’m into it.

2️⃣ I’m a family man, through and through. My wife Elizabeth, our dog Winnie, and our various foster dogs mean the world to me. We love spending time together in the great outdoors of Atlanta or Lake Oconee. If there’s a little fishing involved, all the better!

3️⃣ Volunteering is a big part of my life. Elizabeth and I volunteer with Angels Among Us Pet Rescue. I’m also proud to serve on the board of trustees for Georgia Eye Bank.

4️⃣ I’m proud of the work I do. I derive great satisfaction from my client work, and I was selected as one of Investopedia’s 100 Top Financial Advisors in 2019, 2020, and 2021.

About our Firm

Wealthcare for Women is a retirement advisory firm specializing in helping women retire to comfortable, fulfilling lives. It is owned and operated by Russ Thornton, an Atlanta-based retirement advisor.

The Wealthcare for Women mission is to help women and their families, especially those facing a major life transition like retirement, divorce, or widowhood, achieve comfort and confidence in their financial future and make the most of their one life.

In tangible terms, my services include:

✅ Holistic Planning. I help you coordinate and plan your investments, taxes, estate, and insurance policies to limit your financial exposure and help you get more out of retired life.

✅ Financial strategy. I help you invest your assets in responsible and tax-efficient vehicles to protect you against financial uncertainty and enable you to retire without money worries.

✅ Tax planning. I review my clients’ tax returns each year to look for opportunities for better planning in the context of your current and future taxes. Many financial advisors don’t (or can’t) review your tax return.

✅ Scenario analysis. I provide comprehensive analyses of retirement packages, divorce settlements, tax decisions, job offers, and other potential scenarios to help you make informed decisions about your future.

✅ Financial advice. As a fee-only, fiduciary financial planner, I’m legally bound to act in your best interest. Unlike some firms that receive commissions for selling you financial products, I’m a financial advisor. Not a financial salesperson.

✅ Facilitation. I coordinate with your other professional advisors—for example, your CPA, attorney, or insurance agent—to make sure we’re all on the same page when it comes to your financial future.

Who I Work With:

With 25+ years of experience in professional wealth management, I have developed deep expertise in helping a specific type of client. We’re a good fit to work together if:

1️⃣ You’re a woman in your fifties or sixties. I have devoted my career to helping women retire comfortably and on their own terms. I have a deep understanding of the challenges faced by women before and after retirement.

2️⃣ You have at least $1 million in assets. Due to the high-touch, personalized nature of my services, I am best equipped to help if you have accumulated at least $1 million in investment assets (excluding real estate).

3️⃣ You want to balance present & future. We’re a good fit to work together if you want to balance living well today with feeling comfortable and confident about your future.

4️⃣ You value collaboration. I do my best work with clients who like the idea of having an experienced partner–advisor to discuss ideas and collaborate with on your planning decisions.

5️⃣ If you’re married, you want your spouse to be involved in the financial planning process.
