Hi, I’m Lisa Whitley, Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC®) and Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor (CRPC®).
After a long career in international development, I began a new chapter in 2019 providing one-on-one personal finance guidance. Since then, I have had conversations every day with people across a range of financial circumstances, guiding them to identify and achieve financial wellness.
I publish articles frequently on a wide variety of personal finance topics on platforms such as Women Who Money and Find More Balance, as well as on my own MoneyByLisa blog and Medium.
I have a bachelor’s degree in marketing, and Master’s degrees in both finance and economics. I am located in Washington, DC. I invite you to follow me on LinkedIn and Facebook.

Click the 'Book Intro Call' button above to schedule a free 20-minute consultation by phone. This is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and see how I can assist you in reaching your financial wellness goals. If we agree to go forward together, I will ask that you complete a detailed questionnaire so that we can use our first full meeting efficiently. I look forward to speaking with you.
About our Firm
There are many paths to financial wellness. The journey that I lead is based on:
✅ Mindfulness. A successful financial plan is one where each of your decisions about money are intentional, based on your values and goals.
✅ Flexibility. There is no such thing as “one size fits all” when it comes to personal finance. And no one has a perfect crystal ball to predict the future. Your financial plan must not only be personal to your circumstances, it must also leave room for adaptation as your life evolves and your priorities change.
✅ Simplicity. A plan that you cannot easily understand and implement is not sustainable. Your life is complex, but your financial plan need not be.
MoneyByLisa LLC is a registered investment advisor, domiciled in the District of Columbia.
The MoneyByLisa LLC Process:
We will start with a free 20-minute consultation by phone. That is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and see how I can assist you in reaching your financial wellness goals.
If we agree to go forward together, I will ask that you complete a detailed questionnaire so that we can use our first full meeting efficiently.
You will commit to 3 hour-long sessions. We can meet by phone or Zoom, as you prefer. We will use these 3 meetings, scheduled at your own pace, to develop and implement a plan to achieve your objectives.
If you prefer, you can choose to schedule just a single 1-hour meeting. This is a great option if your need for assistance is quite specific or limited and can be accomplished in a single engagement.

To make Wealthtender free for readers, we earn a nominal monthly fee from financial advisors and firms in exchange for providing access to the benefits described here (including being featured on this profile page), subject to these terms. This compensation creates a natural conflict of interest when we favor their promotion over others. Wealthtender is not a client of these advisors or firms. Testimonials may not be representative of other clients’ experiences and do not guarantee future performance or success.
Wealthtender exists to help people discover the most trusted and authentic financial advisors and educators in the finance community.
Your honest reviews help people decide which financial professionals, personal finance blogs and podcasts may be best suited to their individual needs.
The majority of people trust reviews as much as personal recommendations, so what you write in your review should reflect your own opinion and experience.
Be descriptive. Instead of just saying what you like or dislike, share why. What have you enjoyed most or least about your experience with the provider? Have they helped you overcome a difficult financial challenge or strengthened your knowledge about particular money matters? The more details, the better!
Be honest. Your rating and review should reflect your actual experience.
Stay relevant. Help ensure your review is useful to others by avoiding off-topic discussions or personal opinions not relevant to your direct experience.
Be objective. Try to highlight both positives and negatives in your review, even if your experience skews heavily in one direction.
Make your review easy to read. Reviews should be readable for others. Use proper grammar, avoid excessive capitalization or punctuation, and be sure to check your spelling.
Be yourself. Don’t post as, or pretend to be, someone else, and do not say you’re associated with a person or organization with which you are not.
Be nice. Don’t write abusive, hateful, threatening, or harrassing content. Avoid personal threats, hate speech, obscentities, or inflammatory language.
Respect the privacy of others. Don’t post information that can be used to identity another individual or compromise their privacy.
Report abuse. Thank you for helping us ensure reviews on Wealthtender are useful to everyone. If you suspect possible violations of our guidelines or believe a review is inappropriate, please email support@wealthtender.com with a link to the review in question and reason you believe it violates our guidelines.
